Before I begin, I'm a law-abiding cyclist and motorist.

What on Earth do people think these days provoking things like that (on both sides)?

It could be a reasonable possibility that the Audi driver simply didn't brake in time, he even moved over so cyclists could ride around him. Getting too close and unnecessarily shouting at his passenger which could have been his child or spouse would anger any rational thinking human being. Yes the Audi driver made a mistake, we all do from time to time. Thankfully he didn't run over any of the cyclists. And when he took off like that? I would too, I would feel threatened by the cyclist.

Do I think the punch was unnecessary? Of course.

But why have we gone so soft to assume that others will not resort violence as an answer to a problem?

To think anyone would allow him/herself to be verbally berated without retaliation is ignorant.

What does Oppo think? The FP is full of burner trolls.

Off the FP.

I'm on the fence. The Audi rolling forward was a bit of a dick move to block cyclists. He did not 'move over', he positioned his car to be able to gun it from the lights without having cyclists in the way. Dick move, especially since cyclists are quite quick off the line, and the Audi has to cut to the left again to stay in his lane. Still, I'm on the fence. If you pick a fight, pick a fight you can handle. The Audi driver knew his actions weren't appreciated from the first time the cyclist said stuff.

Also, the cyclist in question was a novel cyclist. Meaning he could not ride for shit. Look at him bopping around on his puny legs on his ill-fitting bike as he tries to catch the car. Now, if you're new to something, you sit back and watch how more experienced people deal. The more experienced people did nothing. Because dickheads are everywhere. Overeagerly trying to prove yourself is never a good thing.

In the spirit of full disclosure, my adherence to local traffic laws depends on the bike I'm on. Racing bike means I treat traffic rules as traffic suggestions, city bike means I'm a law abiding citizen who occasionally ignores a stupid rule.

Upon watching the footage again, I agree that the Audi driver tried to get around the cyclists. I'm too used to American bike lanes, whoops.

It's obvious the Audi driver messed up, but he could be the type who doesn't like to be reminded of his mistake and got more aggressive.

I know the type cause I am the same way. Even though I wouldn't be a big of an ass as the Audi driver, the cyclist would not have gotten away without a middle finger or argument. Definitely not a physical altercation. As a cyclist, I have given the bird and sworn at cars that have cut me off as well as at other cyclists who decide to run stop signs and red lights. No, it's not the mature or right thing to do, but I know how folks like myself deal with these situations.

Oh sure, I'll let other people know that their actions aren't appreciated as well. But pursuing them to let them know again ? That's begging for an argument.

I agree. Folks should know what they're getting into.
